Newly renovated booth to offer new food and drinks

LAWRENCE (KSNT) – College football starts Saturday and KU is getting ready to welcome fans into its new stadium. This is a special game against Fresno State. The sold out game not only allows fans to see the newly renovated booth, but enjoy plenty of new food options.

Kansas Athletics has partnered with Oak View Group and Jayhawk Sports Properties to elevate the fan experience as the program is trying to set expectations on the field, and match them in the stands.

“Elevate the experience in the premium space, the suites and in our concession stands,” GM of Hospitality for Oak View Group Ryan Duncan said. “It’s an opportunity for us, you know Kansas has a long time tradition of proud football, and now they’ll be able to say the same for their concourses, their fans and their fan experience.”

Back in 2019, fans could start buying alcohol at the games. This year, fans have even more options than before. Including Modelo, Kansas City owned Boulevard Brewing Company and a unique drink for every game.

“We wanted to elevate and escalate the bar program for KU,” Director of Beverage for Oak View Group Hospitality Justin Razza said. “And, so, what we’re doing is a different game-day cocktail for every single different game that we have here. As an example, this red one here is called Fresno Chance. It’s one for this coming home opener on Saturday.”

Along with new drinks, fans can experience a wide range of new food options as well. Including local food partners like Tiki Taco and Bigg’s BBQ to Kansas City staple Jack Stack BBQ. Fans can even expect to see Lawrence favorite Johnny’s Tavern.

“If you’ve gone to the University of Kansas you’ve gone and you’ve drank beer at Johnny’s, and celebrated victories at Johnny’s,” Duncan said. “And, so, it’s a long tradition tavern. They have a concession stand on our upper concourse along with the patio, our northwest patio, one of our premium spaces.”
