Louisiana prepares for Voter Registration Week ahead of October elections

LOUISIANA (KTAL/KMSS) — Louisiana’s Voter Registration Week is set to begin.

From August 25 to 29, this initiative aims to help Louisiana citizens register to vote before the October 11 elections. To register in Louisiana, individuals must be U.S. citizens, at least 17 years old to register, and 18 years old before the next election.

“The first step to participating in the electoral process is registering to vote. It’s never been easier to register or update your registration information in Louisiana–any citizen with a Louisiana license or ID can register online in a matter of minutes at GeauxVote.com,” said Nancy Landry, the Louisiana Secretary of State.

It’s important to note that in the state of Louisiana, individuals cannot vote if they are currently under an imprisonment order for a felony conviction, unless certain conditions are met.

Citizens with a valid Louisiana driver’s license or Louisiana Special ID card can register anytime by visiting voterportal.sos.la.gov or the GeauxVote Online Registration System. Residents may also register in person at their parish Registrar of Voters Office.

The deadline to register to vote in person or by mail is Wednesday, September 10. If you’re using the GeauxVote Online System, the deadline is Saturday, September 20.
