Justin Jamar Duncan, 37, is charged with attempted first degree murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, illegal use of weapons or dangerous instrumentalities, battery of a police officer, aggravated criminal property damage, disturbing the peace, resisting an officer and other charges.
Lake Charles Police responded at approximately 5:30 p.m. Monday to a weapons complaint in the 1900 block of 9th Street. Officers were told that the suspect, later identified as Duncan, was threatening people at the location with a firearm.
Officers said Duncan was observed on the front porch of the residence and began verbally threatening them. Duncan later retreated into the home and fired his weapon out of a window in the direction of officers on perimeter of the residence, officials said.
A short time later, Duncan fled out of the rear door of the residence unarmed but was apprehended. The firearm that Duncan had used to fire upon officers was later recovered in the home, authorities said.
Duncan was booked into the Calcasieu Parish jail on $900,000 bond.
