Le Sueur police mourn off-duty death
A community southwest of the metro is mourning the death of one of its officers.
The Le Sueur Police Department said in a social media post on Tuesday that Officer Karl Haugen passed away unexpectedly while off-duty.
Haugen had served in both part-time and full-time capacities with the Le Sueur Police Department since 2008.
“He was an important part of the department’s dynamics and will be sincerely missed,” the department said. “We extend our deepest condolences to Officer Haugen’s family and friends during this difficult time.”
CHOPPER 5 captured the procession on Wednesday, which brought his body from the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office in Anoka to a funeral home in Owatonna.
Funeral arrangements are still being planned, and no cause of death has been released at this time.
