KPD: Man hospitalized with a ‘serious head injury’ after electric bicycle crash

KOKOMO, Ind. — A Kokomo man was taken to the hospital with a head injury after a reported accident on Tuesday morning involving an electric bicycle.

According to a news release from the Kokomo Police Department, officers were dispatched to the area of Taylor Street and Apperson Way in Kokomo at around 7:22 a.m. on Tuesday. They were initially called to a serious injury accident involving an electric bicycle.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found that an electric bike had reportedly struck a trailer in a parking lot in the 300 block of E. Taylor Street. The driver of the bike, a Kokomo man, reportedly had a “severe head injury, and was unresponsive.”

Witnesses reportedly told officers that the man “had been traveling very fast, failed to negotiate the turn using the sidewalk path and struck the parked trailer.” The release said the man was taken to a Kokomo hospital and later transported to an Indianapolis hospital by air ambulance.

Officials said that the case remains under investigation. Witnesses or individuals with additional information are asked to contact the department at (765) 457-1105.
