HOUSTON (KIAH) — A fugitive who was mistakenly released from a New Orleans jail was caught in the Houston area, authorities said.
Khalil Bryan was arrested in Cypress, according to the Harris County Precinct 5 Constable’s Office. Bryan was wanted for multiple outstanding felony warrants in Louisiana for home invasion, aggravated assault, child endangerment and unlawful possession of a firearm.
Bryan, 30, was arrested at the 14600 block of Keystone Green Drive on Wednesday morning. He tried to escape capture by trying to climb out of the window at the home. He was treated for minor injuries and then booked into the Harris County Jail.
According to Nexstar station WGNO, Bryan was mistakenly released on July 25 from the Orleans Parish Justice Center due to a “misidentification between two individuals with a similar last name.”
As a result, two deputies with the Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office have been fired while five others were suspended.
Bryan is expected to be sent back to New Orleans to face pending charges.
