Bishop Glenda Curry, who has headed the EDA since 2021, officially stepped down from her duties in June. On Thursday, the diocese posted the job listing on the Episcopal News Service.
The Episcopal Church is a Protestant sect of the Anglican Communion, tend to be known for more liberal values than its hardline counterparts, such as the Catholic church. For example, women are allowed to serve as priests and are more accepting of the LGBTQ+ community.
“Our search represents a prayerful process of reflection on the challenges and great opportunities our diocese will face in this next chapter of our history,” the listing stated. “We have listened to the dreams, needs, and concerns of our faith community, including laypeople, clergy, seminarians, Episcopalians of color, our youth, and young adults. We have sought a diversity of ideas and opinions to create a thoughtful and comprehensive profile of the diocese and the Bishop we seek.”
The diocese has already selected a search committee that will go through the process until they officially elect a new bishop by next January.
Curry was the church’s 12th bishop.
