Docs: Fight between man, security guard at bar leads to aggravated battery charge

INDIANAPOLIS — A reported altercation between a man and a security guard outside a bar on the south side of Indianapolis earlier this month led to the man being in critical condition, according to court documents.

According to a probable cause affidavit filed in Marion County, Terrence Lambert was charged with one count of aggravated battery, posing a substantial risk of death, a Level 3 felony, after the reported incident on Aug. 16.

Officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were dispatched to a bar in the 8800 block of South Emerson Ave. on a report of a disturbance at around 1 a.m. on Aug. 16.

When officers arrived, they reportedly found a man lying in the parking lot unconscious, with another giving him chest compressions. He was taken to a local hospital in critical condition.

Witnesses reportedly told the department that they were trying to break up a fight between the man and the security guard, later identified as Lambert. During the altercation, Lambert reportedly knocked the man out with a punch. He then fell face-first in the parking lot. The witnesses claimed Lambert then stomped on the man’s head.

As the investigation continued, officers learned that the fight reportedly came after a group altercation inside the bar involving a group of people. The altercation on the dance floor eventually led to a reported yelling match outside and escalated to a fight.

The documents said that the man claimed that Lambert hit a person he was with at the bar, to which Lambert reportedly replied that he was “trying to hit (his) fa—- a–.” Security footage from near the bar reportedly showed the parking lot altercation.

The documents said that the man reportedly suffered a brain bleed and was on life support.
