City of Topeka launches new documentary series

TOPEKA (KSNT) – The City of Topeka is launching “History of Topeka,” a new monthly documentary series featuring powerful stories, pivotal moments and inspiring people that shaped the city into what it is today.

The very first episode is called “Topeka’s Beginnings: 30 Years That Built a Capital.” It discusses the city’s free-state roots to becoming the state capital, as well as the early struggles and visions that laid the foundation for the community.

Many people living during the first 30 years of Topeka realized they were creating history, according to the first episode of the documentary. They chose to document and save what they could from the time period, so that we would have something to look back on in the future.

This new series is provided in partnership with the Kansas Historical Society who provided resources from its archives for the documentary series. You can watch the inaugural episode here.
