Spotty, hit-or-miss showers and weak thunderstorms are possible from mid to late afternoon today. Although a stout cap and sinking motion from an upper-level high pressure system may limit or completely thwart storm activity this afternoon. Should thunderstorms develop, the main hazards will be lightning, brief downpours, and relatively strong rain-cooled outflows. Chances for precipitation decrease further from Thursday through Saturday, although a few isolated showers and storms cannot be ruled out in our northwestern coverage region.
Fantastic chances for rain will exist from Sunday through at least Tuesday afternoon, when a pattern change will unfold. A cold/stationary front will drift into the viewing area and impinge on stout southerly flow carrying ample moisture. This is expected to encourage several rounds of widely scattered showers and thunderstorms, in which we have about a 40%-50% chance of receiving above normal rainfall amounts during that period. Even though we are confident that some of us will see heavy rain, the precise locations, timing, and intensity of individual storms are still a bit uncertain at this time.
