Teen killed, 4 injured in Jefferson Davis County shooting

JEFFERSON DAVIS COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – A 17-year-old was killed and four others were injured during a shooting in Jefferson Davis County.

The shooting occurred at the Finish Line Drag Strip in the Lucas community around 11:15 p.m. on August 17, 2025.

According to Investigator Vernon Dampier, authorities believe multiple suspects, between the ages of 17 and 19, were involved in the shooting. They were last seen in a gray Camaro.

Dampier said Galvin Fortenberry, 17, was killed during the shooting. He graduated from Camp Shelby in June 2025, and he was supposed to leave for the Air Force on August 20, 2025.

The four injured victims were transported to a local hospital and have since been released.
