On Aug. 15, the McCracken County Sheriff’s Office
Deputies said they were asked to investigate “after the severity of the dog’s state,” when the animal was rushed to a local veterinarian for emergency care.
Tammy Richmond, 51, and Jimmy Reynolds, 84, had allegedly left the dog in a car and then left their residence early in the morning on July 4 and didn’t return until the next day, law enforcement wrote.
“The average temperature on July 4 and 5 was 89 degrees,” deputies said.
According to the sheriff’s office, the pair returned and then took the dog from the car onto hot concrete, where he was seizing, and allegedly didn’t provide any care for several minutes.
Richmond allegedly put the dog in a metal basket that was too small for him and brought him inside. The MCSO wrote that animal control officials arrived a short time later.
Richmond and Reynolds were arrested and charged with torture of a dog or cat. Richmond was held on a $2,000 cash bond. Reynolds was held on a $20,000 bond.
According to authorities, the dog did not survive.
“Do not leave your pets inside your vehicle while you are going about your daily activities,” the sheriff’s office reminded the public.
