According to the Oxford Police Department, an officer attempted to stop a vehicle on Highway 334 for multiple traffic violations. The driver, identified as Kelsey Jennings, 39, of Ocean Springs, Mississippi, initially pulled over near Wilson Road but sped away as the officer approached.
Jennings entered Highway 6 Westbound, reaching high speeds before turning onto the Old Taylor Road onramp and driving the wrong way into oncoming lanes. During the pursuit, Jennings struck another vehicle but continued fleeing. Police say he then exited the highway at South Lamar Boulevard, still traveling the wrong direction, before his car became disabled from the earlier crash.
Jennings abandoned the vehicle on Johnson Avenue and fled on foot. Officers chased him through a neighborhood before capturing him near a residence on Buchanan Avenue.
No injuries were reported from the crash.
Jennings faces a felony charge of failure to stop a motor vehicle when officer signals, along with several misdemeanor charges.
He was taken before a municipal court judge for an initial bond hearing. The Mississippi Department of Corrections placed a hold on Jennings because he was already out on parole at the time of his arrest.
