Back then, it was Christmas cookies.
“It all started with the sleepovers at my grandma’s house being in the kitchen and testing recipe and not all of them coming out the way we hoped for,” said Weiersheuser.
Now her menu is a little bigger because she is Executive Pastry Chef at Restaurant August in New Orleans.
WGNO Good Morning New Orleans features reporter Bill Wood says she’s like a painter making a masterpiece every day.
As a pastry chef, Weiersheuser has been on the road at restaurants from Las Vegas to New York and from Miami to Los Angeles.
Now in New Orleans, just like every other culinary assignment, her job is just desserts.
“It’s our last chance to leave a lasting impression with the guests. Our chance to have wowed them from beginning to end of their meal,” said Weiersheuser.
Desserts matter most to her.
From Home Economics class in high school, to taking a cake decorating class at a hardware store, to working at Applebee’s, Weiersheuser has been busy in the kitchen.
It was her California cuisine that earned her a Michelin Star, the worldwide world-famous food rating started by the Michelin Tire Company back in 1926.
Back then, it was to encourage motorists to drive to restaurants that Michelin reviewed and rated with a star.
New Orleans restaurants were never included.
Until now.
And that’s got Weiersheuser seeing stars in the New Orleans sky.
