NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Mistakenly released Orleans Parish Prison inmate, Khalil Bryan, has been recaptured.
Authorities reported Wednesday Aug. 20, that Bryan was found and arrested in Texas due to an anonymous tip called in through Crimestoppers.
Bryan was mistakenly released on July 25 from the Orleans Parish Justice Center due to a “misidentification between two individuals with a similar last name.”
He was originally in custody for charges of domestic abuse, child endangerment and home invasion.
As a result, two deputies with the Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office have been fired while five others were suspended.
Bryan is set to be transported back to New Orleans to face pending charges. Sheriff Susan Hutson released the following statement:
“We are grateful to the community member who stepped forward through Crimestoppers to provide the information that ultimately led to Mr. Bryan’s arrest. This shows the power of community partnership in keeping our city safe. The people of New Orleans deserve a secure and accountable jail system. While this erroneous release happened due to human failure, we have held those responsible accountable and we have taken responsibility and put safeguards in place. today we can say that Khalil Bryan is back in custody where he belongs. OPSO will continue to work every day to strengthen safeguards and maintain transparency with the community”
