The news magazine released the report earlier this week, ranking the top high schools in the country as well as by state. For its ranking system, US News and World Report analyzed 386 high schools across Alabama, judging each school by indicators such as college readiness, college curriculum breadth, graduation rates and state assessment proficiency.
According to the report, Homewood High was ranked 363rd in the nation.
Loveless Academic Magnet Program High School in Montgomery, better known as LAMP, took top in the state. Acceleration Day and Evening Academy, a charter school in Mobile, ranked last.
Other high schools in central Alabama that received high marks statewide include Mountain Brook (No. 4), Vestavia Hills (Nov. 5), Hewitt-Trussville (No. 7), Spain Park (No. 9), Fayette County (No. 12), Hoover High (No. 13), Oak Mountain High (No. 15), Ramsay (No. 22) and Cullman (No. 23).
