Escaped prisoner captured in Delaware County following police chase and crash

(WPHL) — Authorities in Delaware County captured a prisoner after he escaped police custody, stole a car, crashed, and ran away, the Nether Providence Police Department announced on Thursday.

According to officials, Pennsylvania State Constables notified Pennsylvania State Police that a prisoner had escaped from their custody and stolen a vehicle.

State and local police then initiated a chase and pursued the vehicle on Baltimore Pike. When police attempted to stop the car, the driver got away and ended up crashing at Baltimore Pike and Turner Road.

Following the crash, police said the suspect ran away into the wooded area next to Baltimore Pike. After a 20-minute search, police found the suspect, and he was taken into custody without incident.

The escape follows a similar incident in May.

Pennsylvania State Police are investigating.
