WASHINGTON — August 19, 2025
A Lafayette, Indiana, woman has been arrested during a protest near the White House after allegedly posting a series of imaginative and extremely inadvisable Facebook threats against the 47th President Donald J. Trump, federal prosecutors announced Monday.
Nathalie Rose Jones, 50, was taken into custody in Washington, D.C., after allegedly telling anyone who would listen online that she was ready to “disembowel” Trump. The First Amendment does not protect speech involving violent threats, and the Secret Service took her threats at face value, not as political hyperbole.
Jones agreed to two voluntary interviews with the Secret Service, but after the second, agents placed her under arrest despite her claim she no longer intended to harm Trump.
“Threatening the life of the President is one of the most serious crimes,” U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro said. “Make no mistake—justice will be served.”
According to a DOJ press release, Jones began posting on Instagram and Facebook between August 2 and August 15. In one post, she reportedly claimed, “I am willing to sacrificially kill this POTUS by disemboweling him and cutting out his trachea with Liz Cheney and all The Affirmation present.”
Jones upped the theatrics on August 14 when she allegedly wrote to Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth (yes, that Pete Hegseth, apparently now in charge of defense in this timeline) asking him to “please arrange the arrest and removal ceremony of POTUS Trump as a terrorist on the American People from 10-2pm at the White House on Saturday, August 16th, 2025.”
When interviewed by the Secret Service, Jones, who traveled to Washington D.C., allegedly confirmed her online threats, describing Trump as a “terrorist” and a “nazi,” and adding that she possessed a “bladed object” to carry out her “mission.”
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Josh Satter.
“Protecting the President of the United States is our highest priority, and every potential threat is addressed with the utmost seriousness,” said Special Agent in Charge Matt McCool of the U.S. Secret Service, Washington Field Office. “Special Agents from New York and Washington, DC, working in close coordination with prosecutors from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia, acted swiftly and decisively to neutralize this alleged threat before it could escalate. We are deeply grateful to the dedicated professionals who worked tirelessly to advance this investigation and safeguard our nation’s leadership.”
Jones faces charges of threatening the President, transmitting threats in interstate commerce.
