Almanac: Steamy Monday leads to more drenching thunderstorms

It was another warm and steamy day across the Chicagoland area as highs soared well into the 80s and even reached the low 90s in a few spots.

The late summer heat and high levels of humidity led to some impressive thunderstorms

during the afternoon and evening that produced gusty winds, a tornado warning for portions of Kane County and flooding downpours.

Rainfall was still falling across the metro area late Monday evening and multiple flash flood warnings were in effect.  

As of 8 p.m., some areas received nearly 3″ of rain. Considering a full month of August sees a little over 4″, that’s far more than the ground is capable of absorbing.   

Monday Pollen Count

Mold spores continue to be a problem for allergy sufferers, but an uptick in Weeds and Ragweed are also evident in today’s count. This will certainly be an issue at times for the remainder of late summer and early Fall period.
