3 suspects in deadly Catawba County pool party shooting face judge Wednesday

CATAWBA COUNTY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A Catawba County judge is set to hear the cases of three of the six people on Wednesday, accused in a deadly mass shooting at a party back in June that left one person dead and 11 others injured.

Authorities believe the attack was motivated by gang activity.

The three suspects scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday are Garon Killian, Toland Huff Jr., and Charles Kincaid III. All three face serious charges, including conspiracy to commit murder and 63 counts of attempted murder.

The district attorney’s office tells Queen City News that they’ve spaced out the hearings across the week, even though all six defendants are facing the same charges.

Killian was the first to be arrested. He was actually out on bond from a separate April shooting when the deadly mass shooting occurred.

On Monday, Zachary Bates and Izaiah Mitchell had their cases continued until September. Both had previously confessed to their roles in the shooting and provided information that led investigators to believe the attack was gang-related.

On Tuesday, Ke’Andre Mack and the accused getaway driver, Zoe Baswell, appeared in court. They’re expected to return in December.

Two of Wednesday’s hearings are set for the morning session. Queen City News will have updates on what happens in court throughout the day.
