2 people in custody after stolen classic car recovered by Columbus police

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) — Two people are in custody after officers with the Columbus Police Department recovered a stolen classic car.

The Columbus Police Department’s Property Crimes Unit says it recovered a stolen 1973 Nissan Datsun 240SX and arrested suspects Ashley Herring and David Parr.

According to CPD, on July 23, a vehicle was reported stolen from a home on 17th Avenue, as the victim of the incident says the car held sentimental value because it once belonged to his father.

An investigation revealed Herring and Parr as suspects with Herring being taken into custody on July 24. A search for her phone revealed that she and Parr sold the vehicle in Marietta, Georgia, using a forged bill of sale and the identity of Herring’s dead mother.

The vehicle was eventually located and recovered on Aug. 4, with Herring bonding out shortly after her initial arrest, according to CPD.

Additional charges and warrants were then obtained for both suspects, and on Aug. 6, Herring and Parr were arrested and transported to the Muscogee County Jail.

CPD says Herring had previously been arrested for selling items on Facebook Marketplace that did not belong to her, as investigators believe the stolen vehicle may have been targeted in a similar way.

A recorder’s court hearing on Aug. 13 found probable cause, and the case has been bound over to superior court.
