UPDATE: Wylie ISD bus driver killed in early morning incident at bus barn

ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – A Wylie ISD bus driver killed in an early morning incident at the bus barn has been identified.

Lupe Garcia, 64, was killed while walking when he was struck by a bus traveling at a low rate of speed.

Garcia was a long-time bus driver for Wylie ISD and also refereed youth sports around the Abilene area.

No students were on board the bus at the time of the incident.

Wylie ISD said it is cooperating with authorities and conducting an internal review.

“Our thoughts are with our employee and their family,” the district said in a statement. Updates will be provided as appropriate.

Abilene police say they are conducting an investigation but are considering this an accidental death at this time.
