Two Penn State football players charged with marijuana possession, underage alcohol purchasing

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (WTAJ) — Two Penn State University football players are facing some charges after an officer allegedly smelled marijuana coming from their apartment.

Dejuan Lane, 20, a safety for the football team, and Kenneth Woseley, 18, a cornerback, have been charged with possession of drug paraphernalia after a Penn State University police officer smelled marijuana while on foot patrol near Nittany Apartments on the night of July 28.

According to the complaint, the officer could smell the marijuana odor the closer they got to the front door of the apartment. The officer also observed a plastic bag covering the smoke detector through the opened second-floor bedroom window. Both Lane and Woseley were determined to be residents of the apartment.

A search was conducted of the apartment, according to police, and in a room alleged to be Lane’s, a black glass container and two plastic bags with a dusting of suspected marijuana were found in a trash can. Police tested the black container, which tested positive for THC. In Woseley’s room, police allegedly found a Muha Meds vape that was suspected to contain marijuana. Woseley admitted to police that it did contain THC, with testing done by the officer to confirm.

Woseley is also facing a charge of purchasing alcohol by a minor, after police say a bottle of Don Julio tequila was found unopened in his room as well.

WTAJ News reached out to Penn State Athletics for comment about the pending charges. Kristina Petersen, Senior Associate AD for Communications for Penn State Athletics, provided the following statement: “We are aware of the allegations against Dejuan Lane and Kenneth Woseley. These alleged actions do not reflect the values and standards of our program and will be addressed. We will not comment any further as this is an ongoing legal matter.”

Hearings for both Lane and Woseley are scheduled for Aug. 27.
