Two officers shot and killed in Tremonton identified, community procession underway

TREMONTON, Utah (ABC4) — The two officers shot and killed while responding to a domestic disturbance call in Tremonton on Sunday, August 17 have been identified. They are Sergeant Lee Sorensen and Officer Eric Estrada.

The procession for the officers is taking place today and began at the Office of the Medical Examiner in Taylorsville. From there the route will proceed north, making its way to Garland, Utah. It will stop at the Rudd Funeral Home in Garland, and then it will move to Allen-Hall Mortuary in Logan.

A third officer and a police service dog were also shot but are expected to recover.

The suspect, Ryan M Bate, 33, has been booked into the Weber County Jail and is being held on two counts of aggravated murder and one count of assault. Bate is being held without bail. The county attorney has not filed charges yet.

According to initial reports, Bate was convinced to put down his weapon, as he was armed with a high-powered rifle, by bystanders and was taken into custody by police and booked into the Box Elder County Jail on charges of aggravated murder.
