Nexstar Media Group to acquire TEGNA, boosting TV station lineup

HOUSTON (KIAH) — KLFY’s parent company, Nexstar Media Group, announced it has entered into an agreement to acquire TEGNA, pending regulatory approval.

Under the new deal, upon closing, Nexstar, together with its partners will have 265 full-powered television stations in 44 states.

Nexstar currently owns and operates more than 200 local TV stations across the country.

According to a Nexstar press release from today, “the new company will be better able to severe communities by ensuring the long-term vitality of local news and programming from trusted local sources and preserving the diversity of local voice and opinion.”

The transaction is expected to close by the second half of 2026, according to the release.
