Helping Paws announces Hortman Heroes fund
A Minnesota-based organization announced plans to honor the late Melissa and Mark Hortman and their dog, Gilbert.
State Representative Hortman, her husband Mark and their dog Gilbert were all shot in their Brooklyn Park home in June.

Helping Paws trains and places assistance dogs with veterans and first responders with PTSD. The Hortmans volunteered with the Eden Prairie nonprofit. That’s where their dog Gilbert was trained.
Now, Helping Paws has established the “Hortman Heroes Fund” in their honor. The organization says the fund was created from the outpouring of support and thousands of donations received in the weeks after the Hortmans were killed.
Anyone who wants to donate to the fund can do so by clicking here and selecting the “Hortman Heroes Fund” under the tab that says, “Would You Like Your Donation to Go Toward a Specific Helping Paws Area?”
