The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) said it received numerous calls on Aug. 16 at around 11:15 p.m. for a pedestrian in the roadway on Interstate 95 near mile marker 136.
Responding deputies immediately found the man strolling, as there were no sidewalks along the highway.
A deputy tried to talk to the man on the shoulder of the highway so they wouldn’t get hit by a car, but the man, showing clear signs of being under the influence, ran off into oncoming traffic, SCSO said.
Deputies detained him, and the man decided to bite a deputy’s foot.
SCSO said the deputy did not get hurt from the bite.
The suspect was identified as 30-year-old Adrian Chiodo.
He admitted to deputies that he took a “mixture of different controlled substances.” He then said he ran from deputies because he was hallucinating and thought that the deputy was holding a “rubber deer mask.”
SCSO charged Chiodo with assault and battery on law enforcement, public intoxication, fleeing law enforcement, obstruction of justice and unauthorized use of a highway.
He is being held at the Rappahannock Regional Jail on a $5,000 secured bond.
