Among those who posted on X were Lieutenant Governor Micah Beckwith and all seven of Indiana’s Republican U.S. Representatives.
Check out the thoughts some of Indiana’s politicians offered on redistricting Monday night below:
“This fall, Indiana will have the chance to respond to Democrats’ gerrymandering and stand with President Trump and the State of Texas to stand up for our REPUBLIC!
“Given developments across the country, I fully support mid-cycle redistricting.”
“Democrats will stop at nothing to push their radical agenda. Republicans can’t accept that any longer. Indiana can act to guarantee that all Hoosiers have the strongest possible conservative voices in Washington. I’m standing with President Trump — it’s time to redraw Indiana’s congressional map.”
“Democrats have long used every tool to advance their agenda and hold power. Republicans can’t afford to stay on the sidelines any longer.
“Indiana now has a chance to ensure conservative Hoosiers are truly represented in Washington. I stand with President Trump — it’s time to redraw our congressional map.”
“I am proud to support Hoosier State Legislators and our great (Governor Mike Braun) in fighting the long history of weaponized voter manipulation in CA, NY, and IL. Redistricting in Indiana will accurately reflect the will of Hoosier voices.”
“Democrats have proven they will use every tool available to them to gain and keep power. For years, Republicans have idly stood by while the Left has weaponized government against us. It’s time for us to drop the gloves.
“At this moment, our state has the opportunity to give conservative Hoosiers the representation in DC they deserve. I stand with President Trump, it’s time to redraw Indiana’s congressional map!”
“I support the President’s call to counterbalance radical blue states’ governors like Gavin Newsom and JB Pritzker who’ve long manipulated districts in California and Illinois. Their gerrymandering efforts undercut fair representation. Hoosiers can help turn this tide.”
“Hoosiers are fed up with our voice being drowned out by partisan gerrymandering in liberal states like Illinois. Trump won Indiana by nearly 19 points — our congressional map should reflect that. I stand with President Trump on redistricting to bring fairness back to the process and ensure Indiana’s representation truly matches the will of its voters.”
“Thank you, (Representative Stutzman) for joining me as one of the few Indiana elected officials to support (President Donald Trump’s) push for redistricting. The left has been doing this for decades and we need to push back against them.”
Redistricting has become a hot topic of discussion throughout the U.S. in recent weeks. The spotlight was placed on redistricting earlier this month when a group of Texas Democrats left the state and boycotted a special meeting of Texas lawmakers called by Governor Greg Abbott.
At least 51 Democratic state representatives fled from Texas to try to block a vote related to redistricting. Texas lawmakers were slated to discuss a series of maps that would reshape the state’s U.S. congressional districts before Democrats left the state.
Texas Democrats returned to the state’s capitol in Austin on Monday. A report from KXAN, one of FOX59/CBS4’s affiliate stations in Texas, indicates that the state’s House of Representatives convened on Monday. Enough members of the Texas House of Representatives were present at the meeting to allow the legislature to conduct its planned proceedings.
Monday’s meeting was a second special meeting of the Texas House of Representatives called by Abbott. KXAN’s report indicates that a reshaping of the state’s congressional maps could flip five seats in the U.S. House of Representatives that are currently occupied by Democrats in Republicans’ favor.
Thirteen of Texas’ 38 U.S. Representatives are Democrats.
The redistricting efforts lawmakers were making in Texas prompted California Gov. Gavin Newsom and other Golden State Democrats to introduce their own redistricting legislation. A report from Nexstar’s NewsNation indicates California Democrats believe they have identified five seats in the U.S. House of Representatives that are currently occupied by Republicans that could be flipped in Democrats’ favor should certain redistricting measures be approved.
Democrats’ redistricting efforts in California will only be implemented if given the green light during a special election in November. Nine of California’s 52 U.S. representatives are Republicans.
Indiana became implicated in the redistricting conversation when some Democrats from the Hoosier State traveled to Chicago to support the Texas Democrats who fled to Illinois to block their state’s proposed redistricting measures.
Vice President of the United States J.D. Vance also met with Braun on Aug. 7. After the closed-door meeting, Braun indicated that he and Vance discussed redistricting. It is currently unclear exactly what specifics about redistricting Braun and Vance talked about.
Republicans members of Indiana’s House and Senate have also confirmed their caucuses have been invited to Washington D.C. to speak with members of Trump’s administration about redistricting.
Of Indiana’s nine U.S. congressional districts, two are represented by Democrats. Both of Indiana’s senators are Republicans — Jim Banks and Todd Young.
Trump himself has weighed in on redistricting over the last few weeks. In an Aug. 8 post on Truth Social, Trump indicated that he may commission a special census.
Typically, a census is held every 10 years in the U.S. State lawmakers across the country have traditionally redrawn their congressional maps based on census data.
Per a report from Nexstar’s NewsNation, The Constitution of the United States suggests the apportioning of seats in the U.S. House of Representatives be done “within every subsequent Term of ten Years.”
