WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — The Greater DC Diaper Bank has more resources to help families of newborn babies.

Volunteers from the Monumental Sports & Entertainment Foundation (MSEF) filled 500 adult hygiene kits at Gallery Place on Monday morning.

“I love my job, I love volunteering, anything to help is a great accomplishment,” Deneen Allen, an MSEF employee, said.

Each kit contains such things as shampoo, deodorants and other toiletries for new moms.

The Diaper Bank estimates that one in every two families it serves around the DMV doesn’t have proper hygiene products because they can’t afford them.

“Hygiene in itself has been proven to help with mental and physical health in any family,” Diaper Bank Program Director Stephanie Paraiso said.

The Diaper Bank has held events like this for around eight years. During that time, it has collected more than 10,000 of these hygiene kits for families who need them.

MSEF said it’s glad to do its part for the community.

“It’s really important for Monumental to give back to the community because they’re our support system. They come out to cheer on the Caps, the Wizards, the Mystics,” MSEF President Liz Pace said.

The Diaper Bank left with more than just additional hygiene kits on Monday. It also took home a $25,000 check from MSEF to purchase more supplies for families who need them.
