Evergy reports that as of 1:30 p.m., there are around 150 active power outages in Kansas and parts of Missouri. Junction City is one of the worst-hit areas with nearly 3,000 customers without power. Evergy doesn’t have restoration times available for Manhattan or Junction City.
Geary County was placed on a flood advisory at 1:15 p.m. on Aug. 19, according to the National Weather Service (NWS). The NWS reports that Dickinson, Geary and Riley Counties will be in a flood advisory until 4:15 p.m. on Aug. 19.
The NWS said that Doppler radar indicated heavy rain and thunderstorms in central Kansas at 1:15 p.m. on Aug. 19. Locations that could experience flooding include:
The NWS encourages people to turn around if they encounter flooded roads. It reports that most deaths occur inside vehicles.
