The fire occurred in the 3700 block of North West Street just before 5:00 a.m. on August 19, 2025.

When firefighters arrived at the scene, officials said crews saw the fire coming from the roof of the vacant home.

During over-haul, a firefighter sustained minor injuries and was transported to the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) for observation. He was then transported to Baptist Medical Center. The firefighter is expected to make a full recovery.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
