The reopening of the Sheep Creek Campground was announced on Monday. The Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks officials said the campground will open on Wednesday and will close again for the season on Sept. 17.
Reservations will be available beginning Tuesday at 7 a.m. on the Recreation.gov website.
Officials say the opening of the Sheep Creek campground is a “big step forward for the repair and recovery of Cedar Grove campgrounds.” The campgrounds suffered significant damage following severe flooding in 2022 and 2023.
The flooding made the campgrounds inaccessible until 2024 due to road damage; before, the Sheep Creek Campground would open from May through September.
Officials say work continues in Canyon View and Moraine Campgrounds.
