The Clark County Medical Examiner said Anthony C. Tarnoski died from an accidental drowning while swimming near Frenchman’s Bar.
Witnesses reported that the boy was in the river when he went underwater just 30 feet offshore and never resurfaced.
Boats, swimmers, multiple engines and a helicopter responded to search for the missing teen, including from the Vancouver Police Department, the Clark County Fire Department and the U.S. Coast Guard. However, despite efforts, the situation went from being a rescue to a recovery.
The boy’s body was found Thursday morning and recovered by the Multnomah County Dive Team with the assistance of the Clark County Sheriff’s Office, officials said.
