On Aug. 17, 2025, shortly after 9 p.m., police with the Tremonton Garland Police Department responded to an incident at a residence in Tremonton. Shortly after arriving, a male emerged from the residence with a firearm and opened fire, killing the officer. A second officer opened fire on the suspect and immediately was fired upon. During the altercation, the second officer was also shot and killed, according to Brigham City Police.
A third officer with Box Elder County Sheriff’s Office arrived with a service dog. While in their vehicle, the two received heavy fire from the suspect and were struck. The two remained in the vehicle and were evacuated to the hospital and veterinary clinic in the area. Both are recovering and in fair condition.
The suspect was convinced to put down his weapon by bystanders and was taken into custody by police. SWAT teams also responded to clear the home.
The suspect was booked into the Box Elder County Jail on charges of aggravated murder.
The Brigham City Police Department offered the following statement form the incident:
“Tragedies like these rock an entire community, state and even nation. These officers and their families served their every day, and they will forever be remembered as heroes. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Tremonton Garland Police Department, Box Elder County Sheriff’s Office, and the families of those involved. We are grateful for the swift response from multiple agencies from Box Elder, Weber, and Cache Counties.”
TREMONTON, Utah (ABC4) — Three police officers in Tremonton were injured in a shooting incident late Sunday night, according to Brigham City Police.
Detective Crystal Beck with the Brigham City Police Department confirms that Tremonton-Garland Police officers responded to a disturbance call in the area of 700 North 200 East. When officers arrived, they immediately began taking fire.
Officers from various agencies in Box Elder and Weber counties responded to the scene. Beck says that three officers were injured and taken to the hospital, and their conditions are currently unknown.
The suspect in the shooting has been taken into custody and is in the Box Elder County Jail. Their name has not been released.
Beck says there is no current threat to the public, but residents in the area are advised to remain sheltering in place, and the public is asked to stay clear of the area.
