BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — August 17, 2025
Scanner traffic early Sunday morning indicated severe storm damage at Lake Monroe, with first responders reporting collapsed docks at Fourwinds Resort and a camper trapped at Hardin Ridge Recreation Area.
Just after 12:30 a.m., dispatchers began receiving multiple calls of storm damage in the Fourwinds area east of Bloomington. Crews reported heavy trees down across roadways, forcing emergency vehicles to reroute. Power lines were also reported down.
At Fourwinds, first responders said the G Dock walkway had collapsed and was possibly separated. Crews checked every dock for injured people but did not locate anyone trapped. Dock workers were called out to begin repairs and help evacuate boaters. Radio traffic also noted that some boats at S Dock had taken on water and were striking one another, though no injuries were reported.
At the same time, responders were dispatched to Hardin Ridge for reports of a camper trapped under a tree. Scanner traffic described two firefighters on scene reporting a female with an upper right arm injury and a major leg deformity after a tree fell on her tent. A tourniquet was applied to her arm before she was transported for medical care.
Emergency crews reported having to push trees out of the way and take the long way around to reach campsites and marina areas.
No official confirmation has been given yet on whether a tornado touched down, but initial radio traffic referenced “possible tornado damage” around Fourwinds. DNR could be heard on a radio dispatch arranging to transport about 100 stranded people from the docks, but reported no injuries at the docks.
This is a developing story based on emergency scanner traffic and will be updated as more details are confirmed.
