Gerardo A. Ortiz Henriquez, 24, of Portland, had been riding on the back of a scooter operated by another person when the pair were hit by the tractor-trailer early Sunday morning, according to police.
Officers responded to the crash on NE Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. at Holladay St. around 2:45 a.m. and found Henriquez dead at the scene. The other man was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
According to police, alcohol impairment may have been a factor and neither of the Lime scooter riders had been wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
The driver of the tractor-trailer did not originally stop at the scene and was followed by a witness. However, officials said the driver — who was stopped at Highway 224 and SE Johnson Road — was not aware of the incident when it happened. The crash is not being investigated as a hit-and-run.
No arrests have been made, but an investigation remains ongoing.
Anyone with information about the crash is encouraged to contact the Portland Police Bureau.
