Reconstruction work on one of the runways at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP) resumed on Monday and may be noticeable for some local residents.
The work on MSP’s south parallel runway started back in April but paused the following month due to the busy summer travel schedule. Now, it will start back up for the next six weeks.
The Metropolitan Airports Commission (MAC), which operates MSP, says the project is “an essential safety upgrade” to meet Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) standards.
However, while the work is underway, flights will have to use other runways, which could lead to changes in air traffic patterns over nearby communities and create more noise for neighbors.
The reconstruction work is scheduled to last through Sept. 26, weather permitting. When it’s finished, MSP’s flights will return to normal operational patterns.
Anyone with questions or concerns about the changes can contact the MAC Community Relations Office at 612-726-9411.
