New Hispanic grocery store set to open in southeast Topeka

TOPEKA (KSNT) – A national food company is getting ready to open a new Hispanic-themed grocery store in Topeka later this year.

SpartanNash announced in a press release on Monday, Aug. 18 that it will be expanding to Kansas with the opening of a full-service grocery store in November this year. This will mark the fifth store under the company’s Supermercado Nuestra Familia retail brand and the first location in the Sunflower State.

“The brand-new location reflects the tastes and traditions of Topeka’s vibrant Hispanic community,” said Djouma Barry, SpartanNash Senior Vice President and Chief Retail Officer. “Shoppers will enjoy exceptional service from our Associates and a terrific assortment of authentic Hispanic grocery items. And, as we welcome Topeka Associates into our food solutions company, we’re eager to integrate them into our People First culture and provide them with the tools and training for success.”

Topeka locals can find the new store at the California Crossing Shopping Center located near the intersection where Southeast 29th Street and Southeast California Avenue meet. The new store will take up nearly 50,000 square feet of space to serve the local neighborhoods.

Supermercado Nuestra Familia stores are focused on serving local communities with fresh fruits, vegetables and dried chiles and spices, according to SpartanNash. Customers can also expect to find a variety of fresh flour and corn tortillas, tamales, enchiladas, beans, rice and other ingredients to make a variety of different meals.

People who are interested in working here can apply for a number of different positions such as retail associated, deli manager, bakery manager or customer service manager. SpartanNash prefers workers who are bilingual. You can apply for a job at this new store by clicking here.
