First woman to skateboard across America finishes journey in VB

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — From Venice Beach to Virginia Beach, in memory of her late stepdad, Brooke Johnson became the first woman to skateboard across America, reaching the Oceanfront Friday afternoon.

Cheers greeted Johnson as she reached Grommet Island Park and touched the ocean, completing a journey she began 118 days ago in Venice Beach.

Johnson has used the trip to raise money for spinal cord research and continues to collect donations on her social media pages @brookedoeseverything.

“I’ve never felt closer to him than [I do] now,” Johnson said earlier this week. “There’s constantly things going wrong on the trip, and then the solution comes instantly. So, we just feel like we’ve got an angel out here.”
