The CSX train derailed at around 4:07 p.m. on the mainline used for passenger service, which is located east of West Franklin Street in Enfield, a CSX spokesperson told CBS 17 on Monday morning.
Halifax County emergency officials were alerted and immediately responded to the scene.
“There were no injuries reported, there was no hazmat leaks or spills, and there is no threat to the surrounding community,” a CSX spokesperson wrote in a Monday news release.
Crews are currently on scene and working to clean up the impacted site, the news release stated.
“The cause of the incident is currently under investigation,” the spokesperson added.
Amtrak officials said all routes from Washington, D.C. to Raleigh, and New York to Raleigh are canceled. Nearly a dozen routes nationwide were canceled or impacted due to the derailment, according to Amtrak Alerts.
