Capitol police identify man accused of robbing Jackson bank

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Capitol police identified the man accused of robbing a Jackson bank.

Bailey Martin, spokesperson for the Mississippi Department of Public Safety (MDPS), said Shonta Lekeith Richmond, 47, of Byram, was charged with armed robbery and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.

Authorities arrested Richmond on August 14, 2025, at a hotel near the bank without incident following their investigation.

The robbery occurred at Cadence Bank on Canton Mart Road just before 2:15 p.m. on Friday, August 8, 2025.

Police said the suspect had a gun when he entered the bank, as well as a shirt around his head. He took an undisclosed amount of money. No injuries were reported.

Richmond is being held at the Hinds County Detention Center.
