‘A terrible and tragic night’: Utah officials offer support in wake of tragedy in Tremonton

TREMONTON, Utah (ABC4) — Law enforcement officers and public officials come together in solidarity after the tragic shooting that left two police officers dead and another officer and their K9 injured on Sunday.

Governor Spencer Cox (R-Utah) called it a terrible and tragic night.

“Abby and I join the entire state in mourning the loss of these courageous law enforcement officers. Our support and prayers go out to their families and fellow officers. May God bless all those who put themselves in harm’s way to keep us safe.”

Offering sympathetic wishes, Senator John Curtis (R-Utah) said, “My prayers are with their families, their fellow officers, and the entire community as we grieve this devastating loss.”

Garland Fire Department updated their profile in response with the caption “Heartbroken.”

Utah County shared their support in a post by saying, “May the life and legacy of service of the two fallen Officers never be forgotten.”

In a heartfelt Facebook post, the Kaysville Police Department expressed their thoughts and prayers stating, “We honor their service and sacrifice.”

Southern Utah didn’t forget to convey their support for the northern officers when St. George Police Department shared, “Today, we pause with heavy hearts to remember the brave officers of the Tremonton Garland Police Department who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.”

Extending their condolences, Unified Police Department of Greater Salt Lake posted, “The tragic events in Tremonton weigh heavily on all of us.”

West Valley Police Department advocate for the fallen officers and their families through their post, “We stand beside the families, loved ones, and fellow officers — offering support, love, and the promise that their sacrifice will never be forgotten.”

Backing the Tremonton officers, Lone Peak Police expressed in a statement, “We are devastated for our brothers and sisters at the Tremonton Garland Police Department.”

Mourning with the other departments, Summit County Sheriff pledged, “Rest easy, we have the watch from here.”

The officers from Tooele City Police Department vowed, “As a sign of mourning, our officers will have their badges shrouded as we pay our respects to the fallen officers.”
