Court documents show that just before 10:30 p.m. on Aug. 15, deputies with the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) had been sent to Tom Town Hollow Road. When they arrived, they were told that a woman had stabbed another woman during an argument, and they went to Baptist Regional Medical Center in Corbin to meet the victim, as well as the woman accused of stabbing her.
Melissa Foley Rich, 37, of Carlisle, allegedly waived her Miranda rights, telling law enforcement that she stabbed another woman when “an altercation took place,” per her arrest citation.
Several witnesses told officials with the sheriff’s office that the victim was leaving a residence when an argument started, which led to Rich allegedly “running down the gravel driveway” to stab the victim “several times” in the left arm and the back of the shoulder, deputies wrote.
According to Rich’s arrest report, a juvenile was “shown to have a bite mark” on their left forearm after allegedly being hit by her during the fight as well.
Rich was arrested and charged with first-degree assault and fourth-degree assault—minor injury. She was lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center, where she was later released. Her arraignment is set for 11 a.m. on Monday.
The assault investigation remains ongoing.
