A woman has been sentenced to four years in prison in connection with a fatal hit-and-run crash in 2021 in Onamia.
Gabrielle Madison Jellum, 22, was convicted of one count of criminal vehicular homicide. She was given credit for 258 days already served.
Court records show that a warrant was issued for Jellum’s arrest after she failed to show up for her initial sentencing date in April.
As previously reported, the hit-and-run occurred in Onamia on Dec. 9, 2021. Mille Lacs Tribal officers found 20-year-old Chey “C.J.” Garbow Jr. deceased in the ditch.

Several witnesses reported seeing a fast-driving vehicle hit a person who was walking near the centerline. The vehicle did not stop after the crash.
Another witness told investigators he and Garbow were intoxicated and walking on the road. While he went into the ditch when the vehicle approached, Garbow continued walking in the middle of the road, the complaint states. The witness said he heard a female voice scream “Oh my God,” before the vehicle drove away.
Debris at the scene was traced back to Jellum’s vehicle.
