On August 15, 27-year-old Christopher Torres entered an Alford plea to multiple charges, including first-degree statutory sex offense, statutory rape and felony child abuse inflicting serious bodily injury. He was sentenced to 144-233 months in prison and is required to register as a sex offender once he is released, officials said.
On February 17, 2024, officers responded to a hospital about a 13-month-old child who was brought in unresponsive. They were transferred to another hospital for further treatment and were eventually discharged. Torres was allegedly the boyfriend of the baby’s mother.
According to police, a joint investigation found Torres was in a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old girl when he was 21. On March 5, 2024, arrest records show he was charged with dozens of child sex related offenses with multiple victims, including several children.
Officials said additional people were also charged in connection with this case. On March 7, DSS interviewed Torres’ daughters, who claimed their grandmother, 52-year-old Birma Antonia Pabon, and aunt, 28-year-old Tiffany Marie Roman, both of Stateville, told the girls to provide false information to DSS, the agency said.
