Tyler Shough will be the first QB on the field against the Jacksonville Jaguars, which aligns with head coach Kellen Moore’s plan to rotate starting quarterbacks throughout the preseason.
During the Black and Gold’s preseason opener at the Los Angeles Chargers, Shough finished 15/22 passing with 165 passing yards, one touchdown and an interception.
The rookie orchestrated two of New Orleans’s three scoring drives this past Sunday.
While Shough’s first drive against the Chargers was with less than two minutes left in the first half, the 40th overall draft pick led the Saints on a 10-play, 52 yard drive. The possession ended with a31-yard, Blake Grupe field goal and gave New Orleans its first points of the game.
After halftime, Shough’s first two possessions were unideal: a three-and-out to start and a 43-yard pick six broke down how the Louisville alum started the third quarter.
However, Shough bounced back on the ensuing drive with a 54-yard touchdown pass to Mason Tipton, and the quarterback kept his momentum going, during the team’s joint practice with the Los Angeles Rams this week.
The Shough-Tipton connection found the end zone once more: The quarterback found the second-year wide out for a 60-yard score, and the rookie threw another touchdown during the red zone period, this time to wide receiver Cedric Wilson, Jr.
Now Who Dat Nation will see the rookie quarterback in game action for the first time on Sunday.
Kick-off between the Saints and Jaguars will be at noon.
