“It just feels really good to be able to celebrate Black Business Month and help small businesses as well as like our performance, our performers showcase their talent,” shared Think Big’s Chief Program Officer Khay Horton.
The non-profit helps minority-based business owners grow. At the mixer, alumni entrepreneurs of Think Big got to feature their businesses and connect with the community.
“I feel great and blessed,” said Melody Harris.
Harris is one of several business owners at the Mixer and an alumnus of Think Big. She is the owner of Gabby’s Goodies, who enrolled in Think Big in 2021 to improve her bakery.
“As a black woman, I was raised to be strong and be an entrepreneur and so this day as a black woman means everything to me. It means that we can do anything,” explained Harris.
Think Big co-founder and CEO Dr. Shiela Hill believes 815 Day helps vendors jumpstart their business goals.
“Many of them have aspirations to be in their own building one day. And so, I want to just stand with them and hope and believe in they’re going to in their own building one day,” said Hill.
Harris aims to be a model example to the Rockford community through her pastry business.
“I’m a GED, with two bachelor’s degree, a master’s degree, and a pastry arts degree. you can do it, just keep on moving. Don’t stop, just keep going until you can make it there,” shared Harris.
Think Big will be showcasing local culinary entrepreneurs in its food court on August 16.
