EMS received Carter Kits to help.
Deputy Director of Support Services Robby Milton said he helped start a pediatric care program for the state and found out about them.
Carter Kits are for kids with sensory issues or those on the Autism spectrum and can calm them down in these chaotic, loud, and overwhelming situations.
“It makes it very hard to treat those kids because they don’t want you touching them or anything, so anything that we can do – tools in our toolbox to calm them down,” Milton said. “Having the kits has been wonderful. Our staff didn’t realize how useful they were going to be until I got them, and how much they were going to rely on them and need them.”
The kits include things like sensory toys, noise-canceling headphones, and weighted blankets.
These items can be reused or replaced as needed.
