HOWARD COUNTY, Md. (DC News Now) — Howard County police are investigating a deadly crash that involved one of its officers.

The Howard County Police Department said on Friday, at around 6:45 a.m., the on-duty and non-uniformed officer was leaving a parking space at the Dobbin Center in an unmarked police cruiser when they hit a pedestrian.

Police said the pedestrian was walking in the travel portion of the parking lot in the 6400 block of Dobbin Rd.

The pedestrian, a 93-year-old woman, was taken to the hospital, where she later died.

The investigation is still ongoing.

Investigators do not believe that speed was a factor.

The officer was placed on standard administrative leave.
