SRPD said officers, along with fire and medical personnel, arrived at 7:25 p.m. near Northwest Community Park, on the 2600 block of W. Steele Lane for a report of a vehicle versus pedestrian collision.
“SRPD Dispatch received multiple 911 calls stating that a pedestrian who was walking her dog had been struck while crossing W. Steele Lane toward the park,” said Santa Rosa police. “The vehicle involved was identified as a grey Honda that was stopped at the scene.”
The woman was found by officials as she lay unconscious in the westbound lane of W. Steel Lane. She was taken to a nearby hospital while her dog was taken by Sonoma County Animal Control officers to a local veterinary hospital.
“The dog was still alive when it was transported to the vet,” said police in a statement to KRON4.
The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators, said police.
“Investigators are still trying to determine if the pedestrian or the driver had the right of way.” added police. “It appears all traffic lights were functioning properly at the time of the collision. Speed does not initially appear to be a factor.”
W. Steele Lane between Apache and Marlow roads was shut down for two hours following the crash.
This is an active case. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Officer Mike Mieger at Mmieger@srcity.org
